Placement examples
A honeytoken works best when it looks valuable but sits somewhere only an intruder would reach.
Copy the token URL and embed it in:
- A saved email draft in a shared or service account mailbox, titled something like "AWS backup credentials" or "VPN access instructions"
- A comment or internal note inside a ticketing system (Jira, Linear) or wiki (Notion, Confluence) in a space that is archived or restricted
- A plaintext
passwords.txtorcredentials.txtfile left in a network share, home directory, or backup folder
When someone clicks the link, you receive an incident.
